Day 1 ~ Cairo

OH MY GOSH!  The traffic and the drivers are quite the experience.  Even when there are lane markers, drivers pay no mind, while intersections are a free-for-all. The horn is used constantly to warn pedestrians and other drivers to make way.  So when we were so excited as we got off of our plane to see a driver holding a placard with our names, we had no idea what we were getting into.

Our hosts, Dennis and Tommy, welcomed us with open arms when we rolled in about 1:00 a.m.  We finally hit the hey around 3:00, only to be awakened by the loud call to prayers by the local mosque at 5:00 a.m.  Luckily I went right back to sleep after about 5 minutes of chanting.

This morning our driver picked us up around 11:30. We then picked up Mary Kay and Anne at their hotel and headed to the Egyptian Museum where we met our guide.  The highlight of the museum was the King Tut exhibit.   Unfortunately cameras were not allowed inside.

Dennis and Tommy’s flat is great. This is the view from their patio.  Notice all the dishes on the roof tops?

  1. Hi, guys!! Glad you have arrived. looks like you were able to rest up before your first day. Hopefully you are so excited to be tired. I have always wanted to visit Egypt. How wonderful to have Anne and Mary Kay to share this experince with you. Wow, I don't think I've seen so many Dishes on the top of buildings. I wondered if the King Tut exhibit is the same one that has been on tour in the US. Oh ya, the driving sounds crazy.
    Love You, Della
